Event Notes

× Get ready for two nights of singing, dancing, and performing at the Conservatory Musical Theatre Showcases. Students from the University of Regina Conservatory of Performing Arts’ youth musical theatre programs are sure to dazzle and delight the audience with their newly found triple threat status. These groups are open enrollment with no audition required. All budding performers are welcome to join our groups!

DAY 2 includes the following performances (in performance order):

Mini Glee will start us off with a selection of songs from Walt Disney Pictures' Tangled. When the kingdom's most wanted, and most charming, bandit Flynn Rider hides in a mysterious tower, the last thing he expects to find is Rapunzel, a spirited teen with an unlikely superpower: 70 feet of magical golden hair! Including performances of I See the Light, I've Got A Dream, and When Will My Life Begin. Music by Alan Menken. Lyrics by Glenn Slater. Arranged by Mac Huff and Roger Emerson. This group is directed by Fallon Hantelman-Stewart with support by Cora Lockert and Elizabeth Madsen.

Junior Glee will then present a selection of songs from Encanto. This Walt Disney Animation Studios’ movie tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called Encanto. Including performances of Dos Oruguitas, Family Madrigal, Surface Pressure, and We Don't Talk About Bruno. All music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Arranged by Audrey Snyder, Jack Zaino, Roger Emerson, and Mark Brymer. This group is directed by Fallon Hantelman-Stewart with support by Cora Lockert and Elizabeth Madsen.

Senior Glee (Thursday Class) will then present Could You Hug A Cactus? This musical revue, based on a collection of whimsical poems by Phillip Van Wagoner, follows a group of kids as they come together to create a show that’s bursting with poems and creativity. One by one, they each share their imaginative creations, until a nervous performer panics and refuses to contribute a poem. Can the cast help him shed self-doubt and ignite a creative spark? Based on the poems of Phillip Van Wagoner. Book by Jessica Penzias. Music & Lyrics by Denver Casado. Could You Hug A Cactus? is presented through special arrangement with Beat by Beat Press (www.bbbpress.com). This group is directed by Kelsey Jones.

•Lastly, our Advanced Glee (Thursday Class) will perform two short 10-MINUTE MUSICALS. First will be On Your Mark, a contemporary re-imagining of the Aesop Fable 'The Tortoise and the Hare,' this fun new show takes the familiar classic and exposes the truth behind this infamous woodland race. Music by Aaron Kenny. Book and lyrics by Danny K. Bernstein. Second will be The Hipster Sister. It is Brooklyn, 2015. Chelsea is getting fed up with her slacker singer-songwriter sister, Jackie, and it's time she moved out. Music, lyrics, and book by Andy Roninson. These 10-MINUTE MUSICALS are presented through special arrangement with and all authorized materials are supplied by Music Theatre International 423 West 55th Street, New York, NY 10019. www.MTIShows.com. Both shows are directed by Alyssa Woolhether.

There will be two short 5-min intermissions (between Junior Glee and Senior Glee then Senior Glee and Advanced Glee) to reset the stage.
