Event Notes

× Get ready for two nights of singing, dancing, and performing at the Conservatory Musical Theatre Showcases. Students from the University of Regina Conservatory of Performing Arts’ youth musical theatre programs are sure to dazzle and delight the audience with their newly found triple threat status. These groups are open enrollment with no audition required. All budding performers are welcome to join our groups!

DAY 1 includes the following performances (in performance order):

Senior Glee (Saturday Class) presents The Peachy Family. Get ready to enjoy an original musical created and directed by Karen Rose, with ideas and inspiration from the incredible cast. The original script is interspersed with fun songs from ABBA, The Sound of Music, Annie and more!

Senior Glee (Tuesday Class) will then present Could You Hug A Cactus? This musical revue, based on a collection of whimsical poems by Phillip Van Wagoner, follows a group of kids as they come together to create a show that’s bursting with poems and creativity. One by one, they each share their imaginative creations, until a nervous performer panics and refuses to contribute a poem. Can the cast help him shed self-doubt and ignite a creative spark? Based on the poems of Phillip Van Wagoner. Book by Jessica Penzias. Music & Lyrics by Denver Casado. Could You Hug A Cactus? is presented through special arrangement with Beat by Beat Press (www.bbbpress.com). This group is directed by Kelsey Jones.

Advanced Glee (Saturday Class) will finish off the evening with I Want My Mummy! In this musical, Baroness Frankenstein has opened her castle to monsters of the world who are having difficulty fitting in with society. Her guests include the Mummy, a Phantom Bride, the mad Igor, a Medusa (complete with snakes in her hair), Vampira, a descendant of Dr. Jekyll’s and the Invisible Man. The kind baroness rents the castle from Mrs. Hoople, who sends monthly checks to pay for the staff she imagines is working there. So what do these zany creatures do when Mrs. Hoople arrives rather unexpectedly to inspect the premises? Well, pose as the servants, of course! Book by Tim Kelly, Music and Lyrics by David Reiser. Produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., Denver, Colorado. This group is directed by Karen Rose.

There will be a short 5-min intermission between each performance to reset the stage.

Tickets are $8 (+taxes) in advance and $10 (+taxes) at the door. Price is per seat. Performers will have seats reserved in the audience - do not purchase a ticket for performers. If you are bringing an infant and they will be on your lap for duration of the show, you do not need to purchase a ticket for your infant.

This event is rush seating (first come, first served on performance night). However, please contact the Darke Hall box office (306-523-2753) if you have any accessibility requests, so we can reserve appropriate seats based on your guest's needs.

$1 for every ticket will go to support the Conservatory Education Outreach Fund. This fund is being established to support families with financial need who are interested in enrolling in our programs. Learn more about the fund or donate here: giving.uregina.ca
